How to apply

Applications to the Condensed Matter Doctoral Training Centre should be made through the SUPA Prize Studentship Process.

Doctoral Training Centre places will be allocated to outstanding students on a rolling basis until 31 January 2010. To ensure fair consideration, students are strongly advised to apply early. After 31 January, late applications may be considered if there is any remaining availability.

Students whose applications are complete by 31 January 2010 will be considered both for a place in the Doctoral Training Centre and for the SUPA Prize Studentship. If awarded both, the SUPA Prize will be a £500 prize to supplement the studentship.

After 31 January 2010, please use the CM-DTC Studentship Application Form.

All applicants to the Doctoral Training Centre will be automatically considered for other PhD opportunities at the host institutions (subject to availability and eligibility).

Places in the Doctoral Training Centre are primarily available for UK students or EU citizens who have spent at least 4 years in full-time study in the UK, but a limited number of scholarship places will be available to EU students based outside the UK. Please contact the Centre by email at for details.

Decisions on whether to make offers will be taken by a Selection Committee comprising the Centre's Director A.P. Mackenzie (St. Andrews), M.E. Cates (Edinburgh) and I. Galbraith (Heriot Watt).
